College is long on skills and experiences, but short on strategies for leveraging and showcasing them. This workshop helped students name and present their abilities for a variety of professions, which they recognized as exceptionally valuable. Colleen’s approach of identifying and exploring strengths, connecting that knowledge to their professional vocations, and developing a personal brand gave personalized, hands-on career development that aligned with the department’s creative and conscious culture.

We have found that both the Strengths Profiles and the strengths workshops have proved to be a valuable addition to our work with students. Often students struggle to find the language to articulate their skills, motivations and strengths. Strengths Profile provides students with this language, which when qualified with personal examples, enables students to describe themselves authentically and with increased confidence to recruiters.

As careers professionals we have found having the strengths methodology a useful addition to our professional tool kit that we use with students as part of effective guidance interventions.

I run workshops for the Masters student in Positive and Coaching Psychology Programme to show the benefits of using Strengths Profile within a coaching framework. Strengths Profile has many practical applications both within an academic and organisational context, so they get so much out of it for themselves and for their own future career path. I also train career advisors on using the strengths approach with students. In my experience, many undergraduates and postgraduates are unsure of the career or role that would suit them best. I see huge benefits for universities and colleges who can facilitate students using Strengths Profile, to help them focus on what they are good at and what gives them energy. I've seen first-hand how energised students are when they understand 'what makes them tick' so helping them make better and informed career choices and so setting themselves up for a more fulfilling and happier life. I love to use strengths with students as you feel like you are setting them up for success in life.
I first used the Strengths Profile to help me put together my CV for part-time work whilst I studied. It worked! I was immediately offered interviews and I was able to talk about my strengths to get my first job. I also used it to help me put together my personal statement for my UCAS application as it’s not easy talking about yourself. I was able to use the strengths descriptions to describe myself much better and it felt authentic. I was about to undertake a business degree but my Profile showed strengths in Narrator and Adventure so I’ve decided to explore an International Business degree and see what this brings.

Charlotte BC Careers Review
Looking to move into a new career is always daunting, and it’s so difficult to put into words what you can bring to your potential new employer but Strengths Profile has really helped. It’s given me so much clarity on my strengths and helped me to appreciate qualities in myself that ordinarily I wouldn’t have even considered. The Career Guide also really helped me to acknowledge that my previous experience and skills don’t confine me to my current career path. It’s so liberating to know that you really do have the capability to make the change which is astounding when I think of the difference the 20 minutes completing this tool will make to my future.
University of Warwick Case Study
I loved my Strengths Profile debrief and found it fascinating. What really excited and surprised me were my unrealised strengths which I was advised to dial up, as these could energise me more. I’m keen to explore what impact they would have on my career in the future now that I’m aware of them and that really motivates me. I feel like the Strengths Profile experience has opened more doors to the kind of work I could go into. This whole process has been really positive and energising in itself, it has given me much food for thought and helped to build more confidence and belief in myself.
Strengths development is a journey. It’s about changing your approach to what you do and building a culture around you that talks, thinks, and behaves differently.
